Not in a shy way

“Fear is the enemy of logic. There is no more debilitating, crushing, self-defeating, sickening thing in the world–to an individual or to a nation.”
– Frank Sinatra
This one goes out to the boys. You just remind me of the the great and original Rat Pack so here’s some Monday music for you. Ring-a-ding-ding.
So, I blew off all my plans Sunday seeking some kind of change of perspective. And I found it. I had dinner with one of the first friends I made here and she and I just got to talking about similar experiences and common approaches and it was exactly what I needed. It’s always nice to reconnect, especially when living in a city like D.C., with someone who sees the value of working two jobs (we both do, out of desire more than need) and who expresses the same incredulousness over the kids who just don’t “get it.” “Elegance is learned,” my friend said. Yes it is.
Anyway, here’s an excerpt from our coach’s tournament recap. I give it to you because it made me laugh. It’s all true by the way:
Like Mark Richt, I didn’t keep official stats from the scrimmages, but there are still some compliments to go around: Walters was hitting the ball really well, and I’m reasonably sure that he lead the team in RBIs, even though he was batting lead off. Austen played some good defense in left, and Mackenzie speared a line drive at second base. Sarah survived a baptism by fire while pitching 10+ innings with pretty much zero preparation, and Corey paid homage to my flag football performance by showing us there’s no shame in falling down while trying to make a play.
I was also proud that we were the only team shotgunning beers between games, and the only team with tequila and/or whiskey in a squirt gun. We might be a little rusty on the field, but our drinking is in mid-season — nay, POST-season form. The only thing we were missing was a Slip n’ Slide and a beer funnel. And Austen inexplicably churning a bucket of rain water.
And some pics. Despite the fact that people will try to steal your cookies if you show them how delicious they are, I’m pretty sure I’ve made the executive decision not to care. I’m going to celebrate my life. You can try to steal what you can. You’ll never get the creme filling.
